JPEG vs BMP

  • Main difference between the JPEG (Joint Photographic Expert group) and BMP (Bit Map) is compressible and incompressible.

JPEG-format:

  • Most popular image format allows user to specify what level of compression they desire.
Advantages:
  • Memory management is possible in the system and other memory units by compressing.
  • Occupies less space in the page when compressed to the desired dimension.
  • It is less memory and high quality hence it is used in web pages.
  • It is easy load and download. Digital cams uses JPEG images because occupies less space.
Disadvantages:
  • Low resolution because low of low size and compressed format.
  • Difficult to edit for personal because of low resolution.

BMP-format:

  • Images which are low compressible and not compressed are BMP images.
  • They are large in size because they are not compressed.
Advantages:
  • BMP images has more resolution compared to JPEG images.
  • BMP images are easy to edit because of high resolution and quality.
Disadvantages:
  • Because they are large in size occupies more memory in memory devices.
  • They not load quickly hence they are not used in web pages and digital cameras.
